Summary: ED&I Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence is a field that is still quite new to the world, yet it has moulded its way into everyday life. AI needs a diverse base of founders to reflect the users it serves, but how does it incorporate this? We dove into the topic of AI through the lens of ED&I to gather and reflect on the needs of all communities to make sure that no one is harmed and everyone has equitable access to the opportunities it can provide. See some of the action plans identified and what the future can hold.

Summary: ED&I Accessing Capital

The framework for entrepreneurialism has been changing and with it so is how we look at accessing capital. In December, we had ecosystem leaders from 8 provinces gather to discuss the barriers faced by minorities* and what changes need to happen in order for traditional methods of accessing capital are able to continue to serve their purpose.

Summary: ED&I Talent Attraction & Retention CEG

Have you struggled with implementing ED&I practices in your company, or perhaps in your everyday life? Last October, 50 leaders gathered to discuss questions like these and worked on creating solutions to progressing ED&I in talent attraction and retention.

We tackled this challenge with our proud partners at Veza Global, Ensemble Inc and Secrétariat du Québec aux relations canadiennes. Our community came together in an open and inclusive conversation about equity, diversity and inclusion. You can catch our panel discussion here but to know what happened in our workshop please read our report!

What role does AI have in ED&I? Hear from our panelists and more!

On Jan. 14th the Canadian Ecosystem Gathering will be hosting their 3rd event in their Equity, Diversity and Inclusion series. This event will be focused on the role of Artificial Intelligence through the ED&I lens. To further this conversation we are pleased to announce our panelists below.

Cercle des Leaders: first cohort, first week

David Gobeille-Kaufman, Mangrove co-founder

In the first article, we discussed the genesis of the Cercle des Leaders and the thought process behind the programming. Now, we will look back together on the course of the first week.

The program of the Cercle des Leaders does not promote a particular method, but rather invites participants to openness, curiosity and discovery. It is to inspire and equip ourselves to show kindness to ourselves, our teams and our families.

In order to define the topics to be adopted, we shared a survey with Numana members. We wanted to find out about the main challenges they faced at home and at work, as well as the themes they would like to explore in leadership and global health.

The most popular responses were:

  • Work-Family Life Balance

  • Teleworking

For this first cohort developed in prototyping mode, we invited 9 experts and entrepreneurs with bold and original visions, to meet our leaders and invited them to explore. The workshops are like the expert. e or the contractor. e guest, and the facilitation team are only there to keep the discussion going and to ensure the link between the workshops.

The participants began their journey with a psychometric test that led to feedback by the integral coach Julie Nadon. This exercise allowed them to define their goals, put into words their personal expectations about the program in addition to setting up teams of two to foster co-development and the spirit of collaboration between participants throughout the program.

I am very curious to hear your comments on our approach. This initiative is a collective project, and we would be pleased to share our learnings with you.

Discover the next 3 CEG events! 🎉

Grow your ecosystem!

End the year by expanding your network while participating in an open conversation at the next 3 Canadian Ecosystem Gathering (CEG) online events. Their themes are Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and issues related to the Francophonie.

Designed to advance Canada's economic ecosystem through collective intelligence, the CEG’s are the perfect opportunity to meet with Canadian leaders by first attending a 30-minute live panel followed by lively sub-group discussion periods. Through participant exchanges, they find concrete solutions to the issues facing their entrepreneurial community.

Which of these topics are most interesting to you?

Cercle des Leaders, the beginning

David Gobeille-Kaufman, Mangrove co-founder

For the past 4 weeks, I have had the pleasure of facilitating the first cohort of the Circle of Leaders, a support program for technology entrepreneurs through Circles of Learning in Leadership and Global Health. An initiative that we are pleased to designate and co-produce with the Numana team (formerly TechnoMontréal).

This project was born in the wake of the first wave of COVID-19 last spring and I wanted to talk to you about it.

Origins

At a time when Numana members were beginning to show fatigue and awareness of the significant mental health challenges facing their teams, The Mangrove team completed a cohort of learning circles with entrepreneurs from the Xn Québec community: the association of producers in interactive experiences.

A brief meeting between our teams motivated us to develop a solution that would allow Numana members and partners in Quebec’s technological ecosystem, to be able to take advantage of an affordable and simple coaching program to address these new challenges of managing our teams and our life balance.

Le Cercle des leaders was born.

“An affordable and simple coaching program to address these new management challenges for our teams and our balance of life.”

David Gobeille-Kaufman, Mangrove co-founder

Our goal in developing the Leaders' Circle programming was to provide a safe space for Quebec technology entrepreneurs to share their management challenges with their peers, and explore bold approaches to leadership and comprehensive health management.

Follow us in the coming weeks to discover a summary of the first 4 workshops!

Be a part of the action with the CEG & Ensemble Inc.

Sign up for the chance to hear from Ensemble Inc., a citizen movement that goes beyond words - it’s about action. We have the pleasure of having Gwenaelle Thibaut join our panel on Oct. 28th. She will be speaking on how we all can play a part in making our business communities and organizations more diverse and inclusive.

In September 2020, the Ensemble Inc. collective rallied several business personalities to co-sign an open letter in which they all questioned the status quo and committed to concrete actions in their businesses. Such as reaching specific parity rates, offering training to their employees or changing the way they recruit. Each signatory asked someone in their LinkedIn network to commit to an action and to ask someone else to commit. Today, more than a dozen individuals from all levels and industries have joined the movement Ensemble Inc. across the province and committed to concrete actions in their network or their workplace.

"I was always a people connector, and I wish to use my network to be the change I want to see in our business communities”, said Gwenaelle, Ensemble Inc. instigator.

Currently, Gwenaelle is working toward growing and strengthening the movement in the province, and across frontiers.
